Redfield House is a parenting program through Berkshire Children and Families. It is located in Pittsfield and is a subsidized living environment for young, single-mother households. Mothers are ages 16 to 25 and live at the house with their infants and children. are critical to this population being independent and to impacting health outcomes. The goal of the house is to help these young mothers while they obtain the skills they need to live independently and to care for their children.
Fresh Start at Redfield House:
The Nutrition Center’s Fresh Start cooking and nutrition education program is an exciting venture that provides on-site healthy cooking classes and nutritional guidance to young single moms, teaching them how to nourish themselves and their children with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, basic cooking skills, and simple recipes. Both the parents and the children living at Redfield House are still growing physically and mentally (some are prenatal) and it is crucial as they start their lives as independent families to make sure that they are given the best possible food education, one that will resonate as they start their independent lives. The Fresh Start program directly impacts the health outcomes of two generations.
